Bio
Dan Avenarius dedicated thirty years of his life to serving as a police officer in his hometown police department. Following his retirement from law enforcement, he transitioned into academia, serving as an Academic Dean at Northeast Iowa Community College and later as an Adjunct Criminal Justice Instructor. He then assumed the role of Director of Online Education at the University of Wisconsin, Platteville.
Born in Dubuque, Iowa, Dan grew up with an older brother who also pursued a career in law enforcement. Initially attending Loras College with aspirations of becoming a music teacher, Dan left during his senior year to join the City of Dubuque’s law enforcement. He later completed his undergraduate studies, earning a B.S. in Sociology from Loras College. Dan furthered his education by obtaining an M.S. in Criminal Justice from the University of Wisconsin after twenty-four years.
